Review: Megazip Adventure Park At Sentosa- High Ropes, Outdoors & Plenty of Sunshine

I have a fear of heights, oh yes I do.

However last Saturday, I got up early in the morning and headed down to Sentosa's Megazip Adventure Park with 24Seven Communications and other bloggers for ClimbMax, NorthFace, ParaJump and MegaZip.

I know you don't understand what I'm talking about; that is unless, of course, you have been to the adventure park.

Here's what I've been talking about:

Megazip Adventure Park(Sentosa) comprises of FOUR unique, challenging, safe and innovative high ropes projects created by experienced specialists from Flying Dragons Adventures(United Kingdom). Located at the Imbiah Hilltop in Sentosa, enthusiasts are using the latest in zip technology and the newest in high ropes design. Basically, the belaying systems of these high ropes challenges are mostly automatic; be sure to be taken aback by the advanced technology people use nowadays.

For example, I expected two staff members to be at the bottom supporting me whilst I rock-climbed(Northface). Little did I expect, it turns out not only do you require only ONE person, that person can handle up to THREE rock-climbers--just to secure our harnesses to the safety rope and we can start climbing on our own!

Expect more than just that.

First of all, get yourself all warm up by walking up to the hilltop.

Take your time, enjoy reading the signboards at the side of the road as you walk up. Each one tells you some facts about Megazip Adventure Park.

Fret not, back-up's on the way!

When you reached, head to the ticket booth to purchase your tickets:

Be safe, read instructions carefully and it'll tell you what you are required to do:

Safety Weight:

The simple 5 steps are:

#1 Get your wristbands

IMG_1569

IMG_1572

#2 Get bagged and tagged

Photo: Place all your belongings into this bag which you will sling and carry around wherever you go. Friends can share a bag and take turns to carry them.

As for your bags, place them together in the big blue bag and have them tagged. The buggy will send them to the bottom of the hill for you. Remember the alphabet of your bag for identification later on.(Mine was bag 'B' which was written on my wristband).

Thank God the preparation area is well-ventilated with fans. I curse the weather.

#3 Get harnessed

Before you get harnessed, your weight is taken. In addition, you have to sign and acknowledge the Megazip disclaimer.

When you are ready, here we go to the Tower!

Step 4 and 5 goes together.

#4 Have Fun!
#5 Bring home memories

Here are the 4 challenges you've been waiting to read about:

The Megazip Tower:

We climbed to the 2nd level where the instructor briefed us on the rules and regulations.

See the log behind the instructor? That's the resting area while you climbed.

ClimbMax is Singapore's premiere high ropes adventure course. 3 levels to choose from(storeys 1, 2 and 3), 15 metres high in total.

There are 12 different obstacles to brave through at all levels. This is a first come first finish course. So you can't 'overtake' the climber in front of you.

If you're stuck, please remember to CALL FOR HELP. We saw some climbers who got stuck and kept super quiet about it. In the end, the rest of the climbers could not continue the climb and have to wait for quite some time.

Jiaqi, Ruoxuan and I took the Level 1 Climbmax for Starters.

There I was, screaming at the top of my voice because I was so damn freaked out. Nevertheless I got the hang of it and QUIETLY finished all courses. It was so fun I thought I'd taken level 2 if time had allowed. The rest of them were so courageous for they tried Level 2 and 3 for their first.

While climbing, remember to look around you and try to spot the sea horizon view and indulge yourself among the tree canopy!

Northface is a 16 metre wall; one of the highest in Singapore, with three different routes to the top. Like I said, the belaying system is automatic. However, rest assure that climbing instructors will be present to ensure your safety on your way to the top!

ParaJump is an about 4-storey high, 50-foot drop which consist of a custom made safety wire and harness developed in the UK. Controlled with clockwork efficiency by MegaZip's experienced staff, it is a first for Singapore which allows you to replicate a freefall parachute jump - without the plane ride!

Blogger James recorded down how it feels on the ride from different angles:

From Top when Blogger Alton took his turn:

From bottom when Trixy took hers:

From James himself when he took the jump(this is freaking scary!):

This is how James took the video from the 1st person perspective:

The ParaJump is the ONLY ride I didn't take. I stood at the edge and chickened out; of which I regret thinking back. Dare me again and this time I'll jump for sure!

MegaZip, the flight of your life, is Singapore's first 3 wire zip where the finish line is at the BOTTOM of the hill across to the other end of Siloso Beach. You heard it right. You'll be 'flying' down to the beach from the top of the hill:

IMG_1632

The heavier you are, the faster you will zoom down. As long as the total weight is below 130kg, up to 2 people can take the MegaZip ride together. Which means, a maximum of up to 6 friends can take the ride at one go. Race and see who'll reach the bottom first(then you'll know who're the heaviest!)
