Rainbow rose, you are so beautiful~

My secondary school best friend, Cindy Poh and I were discussing about our favourite flowers one day after school. That was before the millenium.

Cindy loves blue roses while the sunflower + baby's breathe was my choice.

She shared with me about 7-color(Rainbow) carnation flowers which she had seen on the wedding day of her mum's friend & we talked about how lovely it'll be if  7-color(rainbow) roses exist in this world too.

I've never been asked what my favourite LOVE-representing flower is. When the question was popped last month, I responded without even thinking, "7-color(rainbow) roses which I don't think even exist in this world."

The next day, I googled for "rainbow roses" and found these images:

RAINBOW ROSES EXIST IN THIS WORLD NOW!
I so badly want to see a REAL-life one.

In 2005, this beautiful rainbow rose was developed for the first time by a Dutch businessman who owns a flower company in Southern Holland, Peter Van Werken. The rainbow rose is also known as the Happy Rose, it signifies real happiness and joy in your life. Roses are the queen among flowers and this is the "happiest" flower among all roses.

Are they real?
OF COURSE THEY ARE!
However the colours of the petals are dyed.

Watch this 18sec video on how the white rose eventually changes colour:

Taken from resources from Escromart

Van de Werken said, “We used to only sell single color flowers but the market for them took a dip. Myself and my colleagues started looking for something a bit different and came up with the idea of having different-colored flowers. First of all we tried spraying the flowers but that did not work. Then we tried the dye. It took us about six months to get it right and we still make mistakes.”

The dyes are produced from natural plant extracts and absorbed by the petals of the flower as it grows. It's easy to dye a flower but as to controlling how much colour reaches each petal, a special process is required and this remains a "secret recipe" of Peter Van Werken.

I read on Escromart that there's a difference between a FIESTA rose & RAINBOW rose.

Fiesta roses are nearly the same as rainbow roses but because the colouring process are not perfected, the colours are very limited & less vivid. Rainbow roses have much more brilliant colours like purple, pink & fuchsias whereas the petals of fiesta roses comprise of more primary colours.

Fiesta roses are slightly cheaper than rainbow roses.
Look carefully when you order your rainbow roses.

For the past ONE month, I'd walked into florist boutiques while shopping in the malls just to try my luck if I could spot a rainbow rose. I did not deliberately look for florists but would walk into one if I ever come across any. Apparently this rose is still not locally popular yet: Bugis Junction, Orchard Central,  Westmall, Tampines Mall, NEX, Bukit Panjang Plaza...

Then at Shaw Towers last Thursday when I was looking for the ATM machine, guess what I chance upon at a corner of the florist shop?

OMG YES, IT'S A BEAUTIFUL RAINBOW ROSE!

The owner of the shop told me one of her customers had ordered a dozen rainbow rose and she imported 13 of them, one spare just in case of any unforeseen circumstances. She had planned to use the extra rose the day before for one of her flower bouquets but was too busy and totally forgot about it.

The price of each stalk cost between S$8 to S$12, depending on the season, excluding the wrapping & flower arrangements. I immediately told her to wrap it up for me for only S$8 (the florist says I have an affinity with the rose so she's not gonna charge me extra. So nice right!).

Hey, I adore my Rainbow Rose to bits!
Its stalk is much bigger as compared to a normal rose, but ultimately it's still so beautiful I can't stop admiring its beauty!

Look at the pastel colours of the petals; The beauty of science.
