He broke the Guinness World Record on 29th July 2013-- the longest drawing by an Individual, exceeding the World Record of 411m held by Artist Filemon from Mexico in 2008. The incredible human feat was being drawn on a roll of paper made by Faber-Castell for this attempt.
Edmund Chen commenced his attempt – the EC CHALLENGE, to set a new Guinness World Record on Monday 8th July 2013 at 10am. He exceeded his own objective of 20m for the first day when he achieved 51m. On average, he completed 1.5m every 10 minutes, breaking only for lunch and toilet break. He completed 601.255m of drawing over a period of 12 days.
This was what he drew, all 601.255m of his drawing!
This event is titled “Live in the Moment” to spread the philosophy of “"go with the flow, live in the moment" philosophy” with the world:
The length of the drawing was officially verified by Singapore's National Measurement Institute, the National Metrology Centre of A*STAR.
It's a very long pond drawing full of fauna and flora: dragonflies, snails, lotus, fish, tadpoles, lotus leaves, ripples, tortoises, butterflies, and koi. Let me show you some of my favourite parts of his drawing!
Beautiful butterfly!!!
Edmund Da Ge's drawing, completed!
Classmate Kiah Gek and I attended the EC Challenge media press conference at ITE College East (Simei ITE) together yesterday to witness the announcement and presentation of the award.
Edmund Da Ge realised I was wearing the colour of his koi and he named me his '鱼精' (fish pixie). :p
I was told by Xiang Yun Jie that even at the press conference, the judge from Guinness World Record CAN announce that the record was NOT broken. So throughout the whole time, Edmund Da Ge was so anxious of the final results before he was invited on stage!
HENG HE DID IT and everyone rejoiced!
Once again, I'm so proud of you Zhi Cai Da Ge!!!

Not to forget, Edmund Da Ge's media friends specially attended the event to celebrate his glorious moment with him!
The students of ITE College East’s Nitec in Digital Audio Video Production (DAVP) course have also worked together with Edmund and his team to record and document the entire process. They have set up a website: ecchallenge.tumblr.com which presented the daily footage of the EC CHALLENGE since the first day. Visit the site to know what he went though since Day 1!
Here's the priceless Guinness World Record certificate:
Did I mention that throughout the 12-day duration of him drawing, at least 2 witnesses have to be present while he drew. The witnesses cannot be blood-related nor have any of the slightest blood relation with him. He can only turn to his FRIENDS and kind souls for assistance.
All his witnesses, (with hearts of gold) were presented with a 24K-gold plated plaque as a token of appreciation for their time. My lovely Tomato Lee was one of these beautiful people. *muacks~*
To motivate, encourage and compliment Edmund Da Ge for his courage to soar greater heights, the crew made a special 24K Gold-plated statue of two eagles soaring in the sky for him as a SURPRISE!
Look at his expression!
Congratulations~

With this drawing, Edmund Chen partners with Women's Integration Network (WIN) Council to raise funds for one of its programmes - the GRACE (GRoom-A-Child-to-Excel) Mentorship Programme, which aims to nurture young girls from lower-income families. The unique feature of this programme is that the whole WEC will help to mentor these girls assigned to them, rendering help to these girls in their studies, enrolling them in enrichment courses at the Community Clubs to develop their academic and non-academic talents and involve them in community activities (such as bringing them for outdoor excursions).
The proceeds received from the Commemorative Magazine to be published on this attempt is pledged to the GRACE Mentorship Programme. Dr Toh Soon Huat of Novena Foundation leads the list of donors for this fundraiser with $10000 donation.
