Budweiser's ‘MADE FOR MUSIC’ 2013 festival is in SINGAPORE for the very FIRST TIME to support LOCAL MUSIC.
This is a 2-day music festival happening at Mansion @Esplanade.
When I received delightful news that I'm going to host this festival, I screammmm in my bedroom, really scream!
On day 1, there'll be Live performance by local artistes, Tay Kewei, Kevin Lester and Jonathan Leong. Budweiser Singapore has also invited local band, LGF, that performs regularly at Switch, Shuffle and ROCKU weekly.

Day 2 is the Final Showdown of Budweiser 'MADE FOR MUSIC' 2013 Singing Competition for local budding musicians and singers. Another wonderful platform for these local music talents!
EIGHT finalists,who have submitted their works via the Budweiser Singapore Facebook Page, will be chosen to battle it out for the S$3000 Prize! Not only that, the judging panel includes Tay Kewei, Kevin Lester, The Muttons and a representative from S2S recording firm. Hmmm… potential of getting founded maybe?

Guinness LIVE is a singing contest which is held every Tuesday, Wednesday &; Thursday respectively at Shanghai Dolly, Dragonfly & Firefly until the end of February 2012.
Since it's a Thursday, the Guinness LIVE group was at FIREFLY & THE LIVING ROOM. It's located at Singapore Marriot Hotel, Orchard Road.
Guinness Live Round 15: Alvin Ng VS Yee Siling:
I was 15 minutes late and almost missed them singing their first songs! The tables were fully occupied when I reached!
Siling using her new prop, a fan, which suited her performing song titled, 夜来香(Ye Lai Xiang), perfectly. The fan was definitely suitable for this song! However, an advice which both Fatt Zhai & Jason gave her was that perhaps she should think about what she could do with the fan while singing. I guess perhaps it was her first song so she seemed a little nervous; to open or close the fan? When's the right time to do so? Other than that, I thought she could wear something more flattery next time.
On a lighter note, I think she looks a little like Jesseca Liu, 刘子绚. PRETTY!
One thing I totally agree with everyone is that Team Firefly a "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" group. Like Alfred from the same team, Siling C.A.N. S.I.N.G. Superstar-quality singer who makes you sway to her grooves, rock along with her tempo, indulge in her vocals.
Alvin is one courageous performer. He's not afraid to show you what he's got; he poses, he grooves, he entertains. Now, who can 'tahan' a man singing so close to you while looking right into your eyes?

Finally got a CLEAR photo of the GreenQueen Band. JasonJaccent, the keyboardist from Green Queen Band, is a piano teacher by day. If you notice, he's using THREE, that's T-H-R-E-E keyboards that day!
I think that during when doing a LIVE showcase, the most powerful people have to be the band musicians. Should the singer skip a phrase or a stenza in the song, they have to do impromptu changes to complement their vocalists. Then, they have to cater to the singers' comfortable keys, adjust the chords accordingly, coordinate with the other musicians.
Next time when you watch a live band, please give your loudest applause to the musicians who played the wonderful music for you. 3 cheers to Green Band!

They had come down to support their fellow friends! What you see on stage are ALL outstanding performers who shine in their own ways. Although it's a harsh contest, personally I feel what really matters is the friendship & passion that binds total strangers together; a form of mutual encouragement. It's so heart-warming to know that everyone's a part of the big Guinness family, supporting one another in times of need.
Look how happy they are! Except Regine of course, I can't see her face when she covers it like that. *bleah*

Guinness LIVE is open to public so you can come down and immerse yourself in an hour of music and entertainment. From 10pm to 11pm, catch any TWO of the 12 contestants perform on stage and catch them for a photo-taking session!

Guinness LIVE at Shanghai Dolly will be happening EVERY Tuesday until February 2012.
Every week, 2 contestants from 2 different Guinness Live groups will be there for a PK match.
On Tuesday, it was Regine Han and Alfred Sim's turn to battle it out!
Regine was extremely outstanding with her bling blings & outfit, plus points! One look on the streets and you'll have no doubt that she's a professional vocalist. I personally thought she resembled our popular taiwanese singer, 黄小虎 (Tiger Huang Xiao Hu or "Yellow Little Tiger" for its direct translation!)
Alfred's singing techniques blew me away. From the last time I heard him sing (and it's just earlier this month), he has improved so much on controlling his emotions. A powerful vocalist, Alfred sounds so much like 萧敬腾 (Hsiao Jing Teng or Jam Hsiao) when he hits the high notes!
Regine is an expert when it comes to warming up the crowd. "Come on, let's clap together!", "Wave your hands in the air!"
She is so influential that this audience from the floor even started waving his lighter (make it two lighters) in the air!
Both Regine & Alfred shine like superstars and I suddenly understood why I wasn't chosen when I went for the audition. When you're on stage, it's NOTHING about being doubtful about your vocals, neither is it about worrying whether the judges or other people will accept you.
Simply let your passion take you high as it flows into every blood vessel, sinks into every part of your skin, then release from your every pore. You don't have to be the best singers in the world, but by being yourself, being carefree on the stage and carrying this love of sharing your passion, you will shine.
Regine & Alfred did.
And that's exactly what I'll do from now on!
This time round, Regine sang 浪子心声, 爱你一万年 and 如果没有你 while Alfred sang 我真的受伤了，有多少爱可以重来 and 热情的沙漠. I'm not able to pick out the best song each sang because they were equally awesome!

Audience & supporters from the floor used all kinds of noise-making props to maximise their cheering: from their screams to applause, whistles to even horns to support their favourite vocalist! Bring your ear plugs if you don't wish to experience temporary deafness.

A total of 54 LIVE SHOWS
where 20 CHINESE CLASSICS
are remixed by composer & producer Eric Ng and will be sung by 12 YOUNG VOCALISTS
over a period of 4 MONTHS.
These singers will be assigned into 3 TEAMS
led by 3 MENTORS,
to battle it out at SINGAPORE'S 3 HOTTEST CLUBS.
There will only be 1 WINNING TEAM
who will be cutting a brand new single
written and produced by Eric Ng and Xiao Han.
This same winning team will also be performing on stage
together with an international act.

Pardon me for this urge to write in dialect, but they are SIBEH HO TTM AH!!! (I really don't know how else I can describe this. Too awesome to be true. Is this even a contest at all?! I think they are professional singers already!)
Due to the fact that I'm a live singer myself, I know how difficult it is to put up a Live performance. You need to collaborate your singing techniques + dance moves + stage presence + music coordination + body language + band practice + dressing + makeup + appearance + gestures + entertaining value + pitching + breathes + remember-the-lyrics + smile + maintain your calm + choose the right songs, ALL AT ONCE.
In short, you are required to be at your tip-top best from head to toe, even if it is just a 3-minute singing performance.
Singing LIVE is NEVER the same as doing a studio recording.
First. Impression. Kills.
You cannot edit a voice, cut and paste any music nor the 'feel' when you sing live. When you make a mistake, it stays with you for life. It's a matter of how you walk out of it and better your future performances.
It takes YEARS to master everything.
I'm only in my FIRST.
Music lovers, I mean the audience, are extremely sensitive to the kind of feel you give, some consciously & others, sub-consciously. Even if they can't exactly tell you what their feeling is like when listening to you sing, the fact is that they do feel something.
YOU DO.
You know when you are attracted to someone's voice; even if you don't know anything about music or singing techniques.
As singers, we have to master all these techniques in order to capture your heart and leave you thirsty & crave for more; not easy. We have to know when to sing softly, loudly, smoothly, roughly etc.
So many a times, I feel like giving up, struggling to get a grip of myself,
and these people make this entire singing thing looks like chicken-feet.
I am utterly envious, you bet I am.
Anyway, the 3 mentors will have a team of 4 contestants at their respective 'home-club': Shanghai Dolly, Dragonfly or Firefly.
