The Winter Solstice

Also known as "Dong Zhi".

This day is the shortest day of the year in the lunar calendar.
The Chinese characters for Dōng Zhì are 冬至.
The first character means “winter” and the second character means “arrival.”

In traditional Chinese society, it meant that the farmers would lay down their tools and celebrate the harvest by coming home to their families. Then they will feast on yummy food, gather together and eat a sweet soup made of glutinous rice balls we call "Tang Yuan". Some Tang Yuans comes in so many different colours!

Every year my Ah Ma makes "tang yuan" for all of us. I don't know how she manage but the rice balls that she made were always so 'Q' they taste like Bubble Tea Pearls.

Well, in these days Singapore have no farmers to lay down their tools for, and you don't have to make Tang Yuan because there something call a Supermarket. If you haven't eaten your Tang Yuan yet, they have frozen ones packed conveniently for you.

I love Sesame the most!
